Q For your Module 5 Journal, you are being asked to think about the skills you have learned during this module related to writing an expository essay and how those skills might be helpful to you in the workplace. For example, you are not likely to encounter writing situations at work that require a thesis statement at the end of your introduction, as we so often see in academic writing; however, in the workplace, you will need to think about your writing purpose, something that writing a thesis helps us learn. For your journal, think about this connection and others as you think about how the genre of writing you learned about in this module can help you when you have to write at work. 1. You might consider the following questions: How can I apply what I learned about developing my ideas to writing in my profession? 2. How does the information I learned about writing in a formal academic style help me in workplace writing? 3. How can I apply what I learned about organizing my ideas to a situation I might encounter as a professional? 4. Why is it important to consider my audiences in the context of workplace writing? These are just suggested questions. You may have other ideas you wish to explore as you think about the connections between academic writing, expository writing, and writing in the workplace. Your journal entry should be at least 200 words in length. Please remember that only you and your professor will have access to your journal. See the Course Calendar for due dates for posts and responses. Compose your work in a .doc or .docx file type using a word processor (such as Microsoft Word, etc.) and save it frequently to your computer. For those assignments that are not written essays and require uploading images or PowerPoint slides, please follow uploading guidelines provided by your instructor. Check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. When you are ready to submit your work, click “Submit Assignment” in the upper right corner. Click on “Browse,” browse your computer, and select your file. Click “Open” and verify the correct file name has appeared next to the Browse button. Enter your comments, if any, in the Comments area. Click on “Submit Assignment.” Evaluation This assignment will be graded using the rubric displayed below. Please review this rubric prior to beginning your work. You can also access the rubric on the Course Rubrics page within the Start Here module. All journal entries together make up 10% of the total course grade. There is no defined age for learning and so it is a glad experience to learn so much about the writing process. All that I got to know here about academic writing will be of great help for the future. These lessons can be also applied in workplaces. We have learnt that a good writing involves an introduction with a thesis statement, a body and a conclusion that sums up the main ideas of the write up.
